The AI wars:  ChatGPT v Microsoft Bing

There has been lots of talk about the new AI technologies in use – or in development – these days.  I requested and received an early preview of Microsoft Bing’s new chat functions. Google’s Bard is currently available to beta testers and had a rocky rollout but look for it as part of Google search later this year.

I thought I would compare the results to the same questions and see which one was better. Bottom line up front: Bing is great for detailed results and links to learn more, but ChatGPT is much better for creating immediately usable content for a start or for publication. Bing also could not resolve one of my questions until I reduced the number of criteria.

Note that both bots gave links to more information, but I have omitted those here.

So, which will I use? Probably both. I am looking forward to seeing what Google Bard does. Just like Alexis beat Google Home to the market, Google Home eventually came out with a much more robust home speaker (IMO). I would not be surprised to see the same thing happen with Bard, but with the technology moving so quickly, who knows?  Also, expect that ChatGPT may end up behind a paywall, while Bing and Google will probably start an integral part of the search engine.

So, check these two questions and the related answers.  Which one will you use?
